Many say that the Long War started in the 601st year of Lord Ios, but to the Quitharan Elves, their War started in the 590s when a magical plague swept through the Known Lands. This Plague of Ending, as it came to be known, left thousands of Elves dead. Even more lay dying slowly by inches, wreathed in the pain and fits of agony that was the Slow Death. The survivors were left sterile and in shock. None were left untouched, none could stop its insidious, deathly caress.
Ser Breeze en Naïlo is the last of an upstanding noble House of the Qui’Thar and is their tragedy personified.
Breeze, originally Ainurathlan, was a Knight of his House and the heir to its throne. He had barely lived two centuries as his father and the rest of his House were taken bloodily by the Plague, leaving his arch-mage mother sterile and himself wracked within the embrace of the Slow Death. In order to save her son and others’ children from the same affliction, she and the survivors of her Order crafted the bodies of the Forged, using all their craft and power. But in order to give their children life anew, they surrendered their own, in a deal with Death and powered by necromancy.
Breeze held his dying mother in his arms as she smiled, her crimson blood spilling from her lips and body, and her bangled hand caressing his metal face. The echo of the anguished howls are rumored to still be heard on a still night in the city-state of Quithara. The Enclave of Qui’Thar is a ghostly shell of its former glory. Where thousands of their kind strode, less than a handful live, surrounded by the Forged – the Undying, the Cursed, the Ghost Machines, the Mithril Wraiths. Many strode to War when the darkness of the Long War first fell, their wizards having finally traced the origins of the Plague. Fewer still returned. Some claim that the Forged threw themselves into battle, seeking to end their existence and join their families in the afterlife, the price of continued existence deemed too steep by their tortured souls, but drowning the debt in the blood of the Enemy.
Breeze returned a hero from the War, but his fury merely at bay and his vengeance barely sated. He has turned to mastering the furnace of fury awakened within his soul by his Transplantation through his monastic training. He seeks a fusion and a balance, and joined the Dark River Company as an outlet and with the hopes of mastering both his condition and discovering a clue or information to aid his people.
